The Program Coordinator will develop and implement dynamic and inclusive programs reflecting the Four Mile Historic Park mission. About Four Mile:

Four Mile Historic Park is a gateway to Denver’s Western heritage, offering a vibrant 12-acre oasis with a working farm around Denver’s oldest standing structure, the Four Mile House Museum. The museum houses an extensive collection of mid to late-1800s Western artifacts, serving educational, historical, curatorial, and research purposes.

Proudly acting as a custodian of cultural treasures, the museum evolves with contemporary approaches to artifact interaction and historic interpretation, aspiring to be an immersive and inclusive cultural attraction that explores the diverse experiences of the American West. Visitors actively participate in a dynamic experience that brings history to life.

The Park is a hub of cultural and outdoor exploration, offering a wide array of educational programs centered around Colorado history. Guided tours of the iconic Four Mile House, field trips, and outreach programs provide an immersive journey into the past, inviting visitors to connect with the heritage that has shaped Denver and to make new history with us at our signature events.

Job Description:

Join our team! We are currently seeking a bilingual Program Coordinator for full-time employment. Some night and weekend availability is required to serve the community and make Park programming accessible during both public and private events.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated and has a knack for creative problem-solving while delivering exceptional service. The Program Coordinator will be pivotal in planning, budgeting, and executing educational programs for field trips, signature community events, outreach initiatives, birthday celebrations, and private events. There is room for creativity with this role–the Program Coordinator should be excited to design dynamic new opportunities for learning and see them through execution, actively engaging with participants and guests.

This role is essential to improving accessibility to engaging and inclusive educational opportunities for both English and Spanish speakers as the whole team works toward the goal of making new history with guests and sharing diverse history beyond those specific to the historic house.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. This is not a remote position; in-person attendance is required. 

Responsibilities

Program Development and Implementation:

  • Exercise creativity by designing, developing, and implementing educational programs that align with the mission of Four Mile in both English and Spanish, tailored to various demographics including schools, families, tourists, and community groups.
  • Lead or assist hands-on educational activities for all ages, both at the Park and at schools, senior centers, and community centers across the metro area. Ensure that all on and offsite programs and events comply with local regulations, safety standards, and Park policies.
  • Employ DEIA principals to ensure that programs reflect the true history of the Park while being engaging and educational, ensuring that all guests feel welcome, and that their lived experience is reflected in the space.
  • Participate in ongoing training to provide high-quality programming in alignment with state standards and current best practices in interpretative education.
  • Track program expenditures and provide regular financial updates to leadership ensuring cost-effective delivery.
  • Communicate funding needs and opportunities to the Development Manager and provide post-award reporting.
  • Actively participate in regularly scheduled education staff meetings and report on programs.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness by tracking participation, gathering feedback, and providing data-driven improvement recommendations to leadership

Community Engagement and Outreach:

  • Foster relationships with diverse communities, schools, cultural institutions, and nonprofits, while attending events and networking to strengthen partnerships, expand the Park’s presence, and promote inclusive storytelling.
  • Communicate your program and event designs to the marketing team, who will promote bilingual programs through social media, email newsletters, flyers, and local media.
  • Review Spanish translation of promotional materials, event descriptions, and program content for accuracy, style, and intent.

Secondary Duties:

We are a small, passionate team dedicated to providing an excellent experience for Park visitors. To that end, all employees are tasked with taking on responsibility for Visitor Services shifts and event coverage. This position includes a Visitor Services shift on every Sunday, as well as taking on support roles during special events, offering house tours, and generally acting as a welcoming, professional resource for visitors.

Requirements:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • 2+ years of relevant work/education experience e.g. educational program development, youth education, summer camps. Candidates with past teaching experience and recent graduates of education programs are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Computer literacy required (PC: Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace, internet, demonstrable ability to learn our team apps and internal CRM tools).
  • Knowledge of visitor services principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong follow-through with a high level of organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to articulate the mission of Four Mile Historic Park and its programs and services to the public as well as interpret site policy and procedures for the visitor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, external stakeholders, students, and members of the public; exercise tact and diplomacy at all times, and demonstrate an understanding of protocol and sensitivity to cultural diversity issues.
  • Willingness to work a varying schedule based on program enrollment; weekend hours will be necessary as well as some evenings and holidays.
  • Reliable transportation required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
  • While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to lift items, reach with hands and arms, speak for extended periods of time, and to listen.
  • Applicants should be able to work outdoors and navigate our 12-acre space as needed for programming and special events.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

Full-time hours with evening and weekend work required. The regular non-event schedule for this position is 9am-5pm Sunday through Thursday to accommodate open hours. The rate of pay is currently set at $23-$27/hour depending on qualifications.

Full-Time Benefits:

  • This position is eligible for medical insurance, coverage is effective on the first day of the month following the date of full-time employment.
  • Medical coverage through Kaiser Permanente, Dental through Delta Dental.
  • Participation in the organization’s retirement plan, a Simple IRA, is offered to the full-time employee after they earn $5,000 in a calendar year. This plan has a company match of up to 3% of the annualized salary.
  • 12 paid holidays aligned with the Denver City Holiday schedule.
  • Eligible for approved overtime.
  • Mileage reimbursement available for off-site programs when a personal vehicle is used.

Schedule:

  • Standard weekly schedule without events will be Sunday through Thursday.
  • Evening shifts required as needed.
  • Weekend availability required.

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Denver, CO 80246: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required). Extreme weather conditions will be considered, but regular attendance during cold/hot/wet conditions is expected. The Park follows the guidance of Denver Public Schools for specific weather event related closures.
